چکیده
Condyle of femur (F) and tibia (T) are key bony landmarks around the knee joint. The condyles contour extraction is the first key step towards: quantification of femorotibial (FT) joint space width (JSW), to assess FT joint space narrowing (JSN), to determine knee joint alignment angles and in defining the lateral and medial condyle radii. This paper aims to contour extraction of femur and tibia condyles on plain anteroposterior (AP) knee radiograph. A number of standard OA and non-OA AP radiographs in DICOM format are acquired. The images are resized and filtered to detect femoral and tibia condyles edge pixels respectively. Thresholding is then applied which introduce outliers. After removing outliers spline interpolation and smoothing is applied to trace and extract the femur and tibia contours. The results demonstrates promising extracted contours on non-OA and moderate OA radiographs but needs improvementin radiographs showing severe OA. The femur and tibia contours obtained are well localized, smooth and have no broken lines.

A Comparison of Bony Landmarks in the Distal Femur and the Tibial Shaft: Whichlandmark Should Be Used in Total Knee Arthroplasty?
INTRODUCTION: Correct rotational alignment of the femoral component is one of the most important factors for successful total knee arthroplasty. The rotational position of the femoral component can be determined using bony landmarks, such as the transepicondylar axis, the posterior condylar axis, or the anteroposterior (AP) axis (Whiteside’s line). Rotational alignment of the femoral component ...

Background: Total knee arthroplasty is a complex procedure aiming to relieve pain and improve function. It is critical to select prosthesis that best cover the bone surfaces. Ethnicity may affect fitness of the components mainly designed for Caucasian populations. This study aimed to evaluate morphometric features of proximal tibia in Iranian population. Methods : During 2013, 150 consecuti...

In 100 knees undergoing a total replacement, the angles between the tangent line of the posterior condylar surfaces, the anteroposterior axis as described by Whiteside, the transepicondylar line, and the trochlear line were measured. Also measured were the sulcus angle, the transepicondylar width, the height of the condyles, and the thickness of the various cuts. Radiologic measurements made we...

BACKGROUND Consistent radiographic guidelines for tunnel placement in single- or double-bundle posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstructions are not well defined. Quantitative guidelines reporting the location of the individual PCL bundle attachments would aid in intraoperative tunnel placement and postoperative assessment of a PCL reconstruction.
